Autumn in Munich

Schmidt-Rottluff

I’ve had lovely early fall weather during this week in Germany. First a few days in Karlsruhe, with a day visit to Heidelberg. Got to Munich on Tuesday evening, my first visit here.

Yesterday I paid a visit to the Pinakothek Der Moderne, in a fittingly moderne building. I was reminded of the colorful paintings of the late teens and early twenties, by Kirchner, Nolde, and a painter I don’t remember seeing before, Karl Schmidt-Ruttluff (example above).
