What Happened Here – Eliot Weinberger (2005)

What Happened Here bookWeinberger is an artful essayist and translator, and in this new book he collects pieces that deal Sept 11 and its aftermath. He is no fan of Bush & crew, and in the last piece of the book, “What I Heard About Iraq” he documents 40 pages worth of quotes from Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, various generals, and many others, to document the twisted rationale and logic of the war over the last 4 years. It’s a powerful piece.

The first half of the book has short essays written in the days and weeks after 9/11, and these are immediate snapshots of what Weinberger (a resident of New York City) was seeing, feeling and predicting in those times.

Here’s a pretty reasonable review of the book.
