"Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus" – 2004

Wrong-Eyed Jesus is a film on the American South, with musician Jim White as tour guide. There’s some lovely footage in bayous and other areas, along with plenty of tours of flat-land mobile-home towns.

As the film goes along it gets more into religion, particulary Pentecostalism, with speaking in tongues and so forth. And the alternative, doing ‘bad’ since there’s not much else to do. Overall I’d say that either way I don’t quite get the draw of the South…

But there is also the music, and there are hints of the richness of the musical tradition of the South, sometimes rather awkwardly staged in the film.
